I hope this letter finds all of you healthy and happy. We are both doing well—busy as always. Our population is now 75 – we lost a few to old age (16 yrs +) and gained a few new ones. We never lack for new wolves-just the space to put them. |

| We have a new friend in Gila Bend who donated two separate time share weeks last year for us to raffle! We just received a new “vacation” raffle for New Year's in Las Vegas !!!! We still have a long way to go for the roofs and misting systems—but this did help us get closer. We also want to thank Thunderbird Signs in Glendale , Arizona for the new sign at our site entrance—It is most impressive !!! |

We had a volunteer work day to tear down usable fencing at our old site—20 APS workers volunteered a Saturday—we had a great time and got a lot of work done---we really appreciate all their enthusiasm and hard work. We have some new friends/volunteers who try to visit once a week just to spend time visiting all our “critters”. We don't have many people who will stick with the promise to come and help. Beth & Leon have been coming for months and we want to thank them for their persistence and patience. We know it has made a difference—the biggest thing the wolves lack is attention—Kelly & I can only do so much in a 24 hour day. |

GOOD NEWS: We recently received an old 30ft camp-trailer which we are in the process of refurbishing. We hope to be able to accommodate some of the frequent requests for summer internships to help us out & learn more about these wonderful animals. |
Poem by Beth:
Waking from deep, dreamless slumber,
Something is out there, but what?
Rising up, shaking snow from my fur,
Raising snout to the moon--breathe..
Pelt, silvered in moonlight shivers at the scent.
Song in the distance, voices rising and falling..
trailing off to yips and yelps.
Excitement grows, as I add my own voice
to the haunting melody.
It is time to hunt! Our leader calls us to join him.
Joy! Pure and unadulterated, as sleek, muscled bodies
fly over the hardpacked snow in pursuit of their prey.
Ahead! There he is!
We move to flank the buck,
Claws, razor sharp, and fangs bared we attack.
Bringing deer down, we end his pain and fear.
Sharing in the feast , we are bonded, closer now than
most times. We share meat, blood, the very spirit
of the deer.
Joyful, sated, we romp in drifts, rolling, nipping at
each other. Snuffling necks, licking muzzles.
Digging snouts into icy silver-white
crystalline dust.
With a start, I awaken.
Somethings missing, my beautiful fur--
is just skin--ordinary; my eyes simply human!
In the distance I hear the sirensong :
"Come! Run with us Brother!"
My heart breaks, I am , after all, just a man.
I raise my face skyward, and howl my pain
to the moon.
